Though she can’t sell real estate legally in Oregon until she is 18, I can certainly start her with the basics. I think I’m going to start taking her with me to open houses, a couple closings, and really start to introduce her to the players in the real estate game.

I figure, in 7 years when she can
finally get her license, she may have the
jump start that I didn’t have when I started. I think
also, she will be really
good at blogging, being she has already started with her book reviews
that she
has been doing on my blog for awhile now.
The things she has really
started to show interest in are good for me because I
have no clue about staging and really have no desire to learn it,
even if it
helps me make money. I would rather pay someone to do it for me. Then
there is
my daughter, who clearly has a thing for it, and I think she has a
great eye
and will enjoy staging homes as well as selling them.
So, here is to the next seven years of training. I may get her started by reading some of the great posts here in the rain. Don’t scare her off! Although, I’m not sure you can, because if hearing her dad on the phone with the short sale departments at the banks hasn’t done it, nothing will.

What if there was a way you could search the MLS for FREE just like Realtors
Now you can access the MLS using similar tools as Realtors. You are in control of what you want to search for, and you can search the MLS at your leisure. The information you submit in the form below can also be used to put you on an automated system where you'll be emailed all homes that meet your search criteria. You'll get internet access to a website that includes pictures, prices, and addresses to real estate that's listed in the MLS!

Great story Todd. My son graduated college with a degree in Accounting and I have been trying to get him to join me until his accounting career ikicked off but no such luck. It would be great to work wwith our children. Thanks for posting.
Todd, you appear to have a prodigy there. She is lucky to have such a great example...
Todd, as Paul says, she is a lucky girl! Having a parent who understands real estate is huge!
From the desk of David Dee,
Todd, looks like she is going to be ahead of the game and good mentor as well! :D
Good luck Todd. A lot changes in 7 years, this could go many directions. My daughter worked for me for one year then moved out of state to be with her boyfriend. She plans to come back in a few years to rejoin me, but who knows when.
Meesha-
It's good to see you on this blog. I expect to see your pictures here soon.
Jim
Todd, my daughter started showing interest about a year ago when she was 17, so she took the licensing class last summer and she wasn't 18 yet so she had to wait to take the State test. She came home from college two weeks ago and passed the exam! I am looking forward to her summer break so she cn get to work! :)
I'm sure she would be great, just like her father... Maybe even better (LOL)
My brokers daughter joined our firm recently. However, he made her go to college first and work for two years in something other than real estate first. I think she better appreciates the business now.
Todd - I have a 24 year old that has no desire to become a realtor. I think that later he might change his mind, but for now, he doesn't see the frustration being worth the money.
Train her young, train her right, and she'll be the best in the business by the time she's ready to get her license!
Todd, Young people are never too young to teach, especially if they are genuinely interested in learning about a career path. You two would make a dynamic team!
That would be a nice team, you and your daughter! I always wished my twin would go into real estate with me too!
Todd there are talented agents here on AR who are also stagers and they do it well! Looks like she is on her way with you showing her the ropes, that's cool! It will foster an ever stronger bong between the both you :)
I always swore I would never follow my mom in to real estate...guess what? After detours in to Corporate America and a stint as a stay-home-mom, the lure proved too strong! I have talked to my kids about getting their real estate licenses at 18...it is a great idea!
Todd - it sounds like you have a plan .... a very good plan for the future of your business and your family
Todd,
I have told the kids they will need to get their license to help when they are in college. They don't need to become Realtors for life, but I figured it's good life lessons.
The youngest wrote a cute paper at school about how he will work as an engineer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday's. Then he will sell real estate on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays. That will be hard to pull off, but it was adorable.
Great when you have complimentary skills.
All the best, Michelle
You are excited about her getting into real estate? But I thought you LOVED your daughter! LOL, I could think of easier, fulfilling professions ... hence the reference to the short sale calls. Good luck, you must be very proud.
Todd ---- good luck -- sounds like she certainly would have the proper training -- both of our children are in the real estate business with Boyd and me -- as children, they said they would never be in the real estate business, but thank goodness they changed their minds.
'
Todd - I'd be excited too! Both of my sons have asked me on several occassions if they could come with me when I show houses, but so far I haven't taken either one, maybe in the future.
Todd, as you already know from reading my blog, my daughter wants to be a performer. My husband isn't too keen about paying for her to go to college for this. He wants her to graduate college and be employable. I told him, well she could always join me in real estate if all else fails. At least, it's a back-up plan.
I think she will make a great agent that is for sure, and she sure is better looking than me. She might even be willing to show her face, unlike dad. (LOL)
