So you have an ugly house, so what? It doesn’t mean it won’t sell, it just means you need to put some lipstick on it and find the right person for it. Look at a Friday or Saturday night at any bar in any town, 2:30 rolls around and even the ugly people go home with someone, so why can’t this be your house?

You just need to be creative and
find the person that wants it. It may
be
price, amenities, or just the right color of lipstick to make someone
want to
make your home their home. You see, your home may be ugly to you, but
to
someone else it maybe hold an inner beauty that only they can see.
Clearly, at one time, you
found your ugly home to be pretty also,
right? So,
why don’t you think someone else will? I find many homes that I think
are ugly,
but on the outside are wearing lots of makeup and look good. Once I
step inside
I could never see buying this place, but I keep my opinion to myself
and I am
amazed when my buyers say, “This is it, let’s put in an offer.”
So, what made them take
this ugly home? Was it the fact that it was now
2:30
and closing time was coming fast and they were afraid they were going
to be
left without a home if they didn’t buy yours? They say there is a
person for
everyone and I believe the same to be about houses. So put that
lipstick on
your house and gussy up because the weekend is coming and I have a
feeling your
buyer will be over soon.

What if there was a way you could search the MLS for FREE just like Realtors
Now you can access the MLS using similar tools as Realtors. You are in control of what you want to search for, and you can search the MLS at your leisure. The information you submit in the form below can also be used to put you on an automated system where you'll be emailed all homes that meet your search criteria. You'll get internet access to a website that includes pictures, prices, and addresses to real estate that's listed in the MLS!

Todd,
Paint, clean, de-clutter and organize/stage - it will show any pig to it's best! Love the picture!
All the best, Michelle
Todd, Great analogy regarding the 'not-so-pretty listings! Of course, you know I think that pig is absolutely B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L even without the lipstick!
Hi Todd - I recently showed a house to my buyer that I figured she would laugh at. It wasn't ugly at all, but it had a very funny floor plan that didn't make any sense to me - rooms you had to walk through to get to other rooms. She fell in love with it right away, and bought it. She is now very happy there and stil in love with her home. Who knew?
Todd,
Surely you know ugly is subjective! No one buys an ugly home. Some may buy an ugly house, there is a difference!
Home owners don't see their home as ugly, until they out grow it and then they refer to it as this or our ugly house. Home is never ugly.
Homes can only be described as ugly in the third person such as "their ugly home!"
The biggest problem I had selling homes was not saying: "You'd live in this!"
Bill
Todd - LOL! What a great analogy. I'm going to agree with Michelle on this one. Make it look the best it can and someone will buy it. I've also seen Susan's scenario too.
Currently have a client in escrow on a home that I thought (kept my opinion to myself) was "butt ugly" when I saw it, which was when my client dragged me there (she's a friend) because she wanted me to see the home that she thinks is absolutely perfect for her and hubby. Go figure!
Who am I to tell her what is perfect for her. As long as she loves it, that's all that matters.
Todd - I agree and love the analogy although I find pigs adorable. There is a home for everyone, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Todd - I love this post because beauty will always be subjective...throw a little price incentive...and watch the lipstick work. Not everyone wants to buy like the Clampet's did on The Beverly Hillbilly's ..they may just want an afordable home.
Todd
Makes all the sense in the world to me; somehow there is a political ring here.
Todd ---- you missed the lips, a little, but I love the post -- there is someone for everyone - I believe that.

OMG - i am in tears over this one, Todd! I just HAVE to reblog this one - very creative! On a serious note.....yes, with the right shade of lipstick any house can tranform.
Todd, very clever! But you're right there is a buyer for every house. You just have to find them.
Hi Todd ~ I can't help but think of a horrid saying I heard at a recent sales meeting "there's a pig for every sty". Never thought I'd have the chance to use it but I can't resist!
Liz
Just too funny - and true! Of course, there is the matter of waking up the next day from 2:30 and closing time only to realize -- I DID WHAT???!! With that said, sometimes it's a good idea to advise our buyers to go home and sleep on it.
Everyone has there idea of the perfect home let them enjoy it.
That is funny Todd!
OMG this made me crack up. What a comparison!! Thanks for the laugh. I can clearly see your point and have to agree with you, but I hadn't heard it put that way before.
Todd, what is with you and pigs? I guess if it gets your point across.
Hi Todd..Funny post with a great message, nothing like good humor to tell a story.
Love the promo Todd. In my single days I used to boast that I never went home with an ugly one. Woke up with a few though! :-)
Interesting analogy...How drunk to the buyers need to be of your lipsticked pig of a house to sell at 2:30 AM?
From the desk of David Dee,
Todd, there's a house for everyone. At the right price it will move.
Todd..another great post. Enjoyed the analogy...very funny!!!!!
