Usually when Oregon is mentioned
in travel articles, I'm proud to
advertise it, because usually they are telling people how
great and
beautiful Oregon is. But, this article wasn't so nice! Yes, Portland,
Oregon, was number four on this list along with another building in
Seattle.

So, what was this list?
It was a list of the World's Ugliest Building!
OUCH! Now, this isn't some off beat place either. It isn't
some
building built in the corner of Portland where no one would ever see
it, oh no. This is the Portland Building, the building where most of
the Portland City staff work out of and it was only built about 20
years ago. It is right smack in the middle of Portland on a major
street.
So, as we bow our heads,
here in Oregon, for having one of the ugliest
buildings in the world, I'm going to make it a positive. Come
visit our
great state, see all the other most beautiful spots we have and just
turn your head when you drive by the Portland building and forget that
we made that list. (We really are a great place to visit and live!)
To check out the rest of
the distinguished list of ugly
buildings, check out this link to the original article on Yahoo
headlines.

Hi Todd...it's all in the eyes of the beholder :O))
Hi Todd, just consider a balance point for all the natural beauty. Portland is a great town in a beautiful state.
Thanks for sharing that link! Yes, it's bad, but it's not nearly as bad as most of the others on the list.
Todd -
Any out-of-stater who would take such an ugly tact simply cannot be taken seriously. Portland's buildings are great.....and that includes this one with the big statue of Portlandia over the entrance.
Hi, Todd. This is too funny. I agree with Sara....the Portland building is bad, it's not the baddest!
Ths author is dead wrong...the Portland Building is a destination to architechts around the world. Michael Graves is one of the premiere architects of our time and we should be proud to display his work in our city.
For what its worth, I also like the Longaberger Home Office building.
What's the saying....for some people any press is better than no press. Hey...it works.
Consider this. There are worse and there are better ones. The good thing is people are still working in THAT building and couldn't care less. They still have a job and that building is the prettiest one to them.
Todd - I'm with Fred on this one "it's all in the eyes of the beholder."
I really like the Portland Building, and most of Portland's downtown skyline. Art is right!
Who takes time to look for ugly buildings anyway??
