Yep, you read that correctly
and to
be honest most
days my kids are done with school by noon, leaving their day free to do
things most other kids don’t get a
chance to do. We can take them to the Oregon
Zoo, O.M.S.I.
(Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) or any number of
parks in the
Beaverton / Tigard area.
How are they able to do this?
My family has chosen to home school our
children and there isn’t a day that goes by that we regret that decision.
Our kids are involved in sports and church activities, so they get
plenty of
interaction with other children, but they also know how to work with
adults,
where I find most kids who go to public school haven’t learned.
My kids understand work and every one of them so far has picked out jobs where they want to work for themselves rather than working for a boss. I didn’t tell them to do that, they decided that on their own. My oldest keeps changing her mind, but either wants to work with animals or children, but either way, she wants to open her own place. My son wants to open a restaurant and my youngest, she is only 5 seems to stick with owning a Veterinarian clinic. (But, we keep telling her she can’t be scared of dogs if she chooses that one.)
So, Monday when we are done at noon, and we are out and about, and someone asks, “Why aren’t you in school?” My kids can answer proudly, “We are home schooled and we are done for the day already!”

Kudos to you and your family for choosing to put your children first. We have many friends who homeschool and have never met better educated, more responsible children than those who HAVE been homeschooled...they are almost always an impressive bunch.
Awesome for you Todd for choosing to home school your children. I have a couple of friends who do the same thing, and I think they have the upperhand when it comes to their children's education.
Hi Todd, from what I have read you ought to write a book on parenting and maybe life in general. You seem to have it all together and always headed north. I enjoy reading your post and especially about your kids. Good Luck and God Bless.
I think kids are a reflection on their parents and in my case I sure hope so. I would have loved to home school mine but it just wasn't meant to be, we chose to send them to a christian school where they became much smarter than I will ever be anyway.
Great job with your kids Todd! At the end of the day, one way in which Iwill measure my success will be in how I raised my daughter so I've yet to find out how I am doing, but I think we are on the right path.
I'm a big fan of home schooling---and educating parents! I love the enrichment that can be provided for a home-schooled child. I don't think every household or parent is equipeed to do this, but when you have the desire for it, there are so many wonderful resources and support groups available to help you learn about it and get started. What a sweet family you have!
Todd, You have great kids and it really shows! They are getting a well-balanced education without all the other"education" influencing them. Kudos to you and Samantha!
It's great that we have options in our country! I think the real lesson here is to protect our freedoms so that we have these options! Thanks for a great post!
HI Todd,
Thanks for the insight, as a father with children it is always great to know your options.
That's great that home schooling works for you. I know some kids where home schooling doesn't work, and the parents can't see it. Do what works, and if it's not working, modify things. My daughter has been in daycare since 10 weeks old, and at 21 months, she asks, " We go Bye bye?" every morning as she loves going.
The only draw back I've run in to with home schooling is if I decided I don't like the teacher or the teaching methods, I have found it best I not say a word if I don't want a pillow put over my face in the middle of the night.

Todd --- think it is wonderful that ya'll home school the children --- awesome -- I enjoyed your post, too.
