Back
in February I had to
write a post that was very hard to write, but I needed to.
It helped
with the
grieving process for me. The title of the post was “Why
can’t we take away their pain and put in its place the good memories”
and
it was about the loss of our puppy Midge.
We didn’t want to
immediately replace Midge because that would make the
kids
think we were doing exactly that...replacing Midge and we
felt the kids
needed
time to grieve before getting a new family pet.
Well,
about a month ago the
kids approached us about getting a new pet and we knew they were ready.
So, we
looked around and thought we had an idea what we wanted, but after I
commented
on a post here in the rain, about how cute their pet was, a turn of
events that
I didn’t expect started to happen.
You
see, my online friend
Wanda
Kubat-Nerdin is
about to become my real life friend and I
guess in a weird
way… a Family member! After I wrote about how cute her pet
was and that
my wife
and I have thought about getting a pig for the last 15 years or so, she
e-mailed me and told me that they just had piglets and if I wanted one
she
would give us one.
So,
next Sunday my family and
I are packing up the car and heading to Southern Utah and picking up
our new
family member… Athena!

Thank you, Wanda, and I
really look forward to taking part of your
family and
adding it to ours and I’m looking forward to turning another online
friendship
in to a real life one!

TC,
Sounds like hogwash to me...!!! LOL, Thanks, Fran
Ah, what a great story. I wanted a pig so bad when I was younger, never got one though.
Hi Todd~ She really is a cute little thing! I just can't imagine having one for a pet. I had a friend that had one and she just loved her pig.
I remember your post about the loss of you beloved dog. You surprised me with your news about the pig. Athena is a cutie!
Geez, I would be wary of someone giving me a pig. The last guy who gave me livestock made me marry his daughter! Yee Haw
may you and the family find great Joy and Happiness togethers
I must admit that is one cute little pet pig. I bet she is really loved by you and your family.
How wonderful! And pigs are very smart... she will have you trained in no time :) What a great story, too. I wish you and the kids and Athena the best time as your family expands!
Todd, now that is a heartwarming story! Safe journey for you and your family. Hope to see many photos of the new addition.
Todd,
OMG, what a great story. As for "we knew they were ready" things like that obviously take a while, good for you.
Congratulations Todd on your newest member(s) of your Family.
Cheers, no Pig Jokes from me if you promise to no Dog Jokes.
Now go put up your favorite Sign all over Town...SOLD
That is just about the cutest little pig I have ever seen. Athena how beautiful you are. Confirms even more why I stopped eating pork several years ago!
I didn't think I would replace my 17 year old pom/poo Roxie right away, but I started looking on PetFinders and this little dog just jumped off the monitor and into my heart. Her name is Sugar and she is now part of my family.
Congratulations !
Hi Todd... what a great story about friendships formed in The Rain. And what an adorable pig! I hope that your whole family has a blast with Athena!
Todd - When we lost our first boxer, Tawni, it took us a year to get over her loss and get another boxer puppy. We love our new girl, Gracie (who is 1 1/2), but we still miss our Tawni girl. It's just like losing a family member.
Todd, I've always wanted a pot bellied pig but never to get one because of my HOA restrictions. I'll be subscribing to your post just to see her. I am sure that you will love Athena!
Todd:
Athena? Kind of a high society name.
Fitting for a pig who always wears white stockings.
Todd, Athena is patiently awaiting the arrival of your family. She will be a great pet and the inspiration for many stories! I believe that I have more pictures of the piglets than I do of my own children! Have a safe trip and we'll see you next week! Oh, and remember to bring treats (for Athena)!
Todd,
Smart pets and I hear wonderful and friendly as well. You have to keep us posted about Athena. Utah is great, I was just in Salt Lake last week; nice mountains.
Todd... that is an interesting pet to have. Never thought of owning a pig myself. Sorry for the loss of your previous pet. Its especially sad to know it was only a puppy.
Todd - Athena will make a great addition to your family. My husband had a pig growing up and he has great memories of her.
Dude...you're cracking me up. This is hysterical. I hope that you guys have a blast. You're kids should be as happy as a pig in......er....never mind.
I want to meet Athena...you will be the only person I know that keeps a pig in their living room. Are the kids ok with Athena vs a dog, cat or some other more conventional pet? This is fantastic
This post really takes home the bacon for me!! (sorry, worst best I could come up with, haha....Don't tell Athena I said that.)
(I think I am logged in as the business builder account but I'm just about to leave and logging out and logging in seems like a tough task to tackle. Bob)
Todd,
I know your kids will love Athena as will you! Please bring pictures with you when you come down next month!
Todd,
Pigs are AWESOME! My friend Diane has opne n amed Hannah. Hannah thinks she's a dog and watches tv, etc with all of the dogs. Hannah even goes out through the doggie door. The problem became when Hannah was too large and took half of the door with her. LOL
Anyway, enjoy your little guy!
Todd - She sure is cute. It is true, pigs are very smart and cleaner than most believe. They like to play in the dirt just like most children. How fun.
