Over
the weekend I told
everyone of an event that I was helping with as a volunteer.
But my 10 year old
daughter also wanted to be giving
back and you can never
be too young to do
that! Since before she was born, I have been volunteering for the Oregon
Ferret Shelter and
helping them out with their fundraisers. But, my daughter also wanted
to give
back, but she had a decision that put her in tears.
You see most 10 year old
girls wouldn’t have had a problem making this
decision, but my daughter is different. She had to decide
on going to the event
and helping out like she has for the past 10 years or going to her best
friend’s birthday party. For most it would be an easy decision, but not
for
her.
Friday night came and she
still hadn’t decided. Luckily for her, God gave her a
break and her best friend called and told her, “I gave you
the wrong date in
the e-mail, it is the next day!” She was off the hook, she could now do
both
events and she was smiling from ear to ear because of it.
Now at the event she was
babysitting little ferrets that are known for getting
in to everything. She was having so much fun she now
wants to foster ferrets
that have been left at the shelter, either because they were sick or
their
owners had to move to states like California where they are illegal.
Once again
proving you
are never to young to give back.
At the end of the event
she was asking about volunteering and now she will
hopefully, in the next two weeks, be starting at the ferret shelter and
helping
out two days a week with the animals and giving back to the community
also.
(Something you don’t see very often from a 10 year old.)
I have to say I’m pretty
proud of my daughter and she continually surprises me
with how much kids and animals seem to be attracted to her
and are willing to
let her take care of them when most others will not. I have a feeling
when she
gets older, whatever she decides to do it will involve helping others,
but
whatever she chooses to do, I know she will be great at it!
To all the other kids out there like this, don’t let anyone tell you that you are too young, because you truly can do anything your heart desires and giving back is just one of those gifts you can give.

How proud you must be of your daughter. She is certainly an extra-special 10 year old!
Hi Todd,
Your daughter is truly an inspiration! What a selfless thing to do!I to think god was looking over her as well, as her heart was pure and how passionate she is! What a wonderful thing!
:)

Todd, You obviously have a very special daughter! I started volunteering at a nursing home when I was 12 and the lessons I learned will last me a lifetime!
Todd, Your daughter is very inspiring! God has given her a very special gift...
Todd, it sounds like you may have a veterinarian in the family some day, if this love for animals stays with your daughter.
TC,
For your daughter to be trusted like that by both people and animals says a lot about her character...and her parents...!!! Thanks, Fran
Todd - that is so amazing and wonderful! A proud moment indeed. ~Rita

Obviously you have a very special daughter! What a great reflection on her parents. :)
She sounds like a really special little girl. A career with animals sounds like it is in her future!

What a wonderful daughter you have; one is never too young or old to give back.
What great way to get started in her soon to be adult life. I'm proud of her and I don't even know her.
Todd,
I was in an out all day yesterday and missed this.
Hart warming!
Well done Daddy.
Bill
Aren't great daughters an incredible blessing! And as you know, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree!
