If your home is overpriced and doesn’t sell, it now could cost you even more in Tigard, Oregon! It seems the local government is now following the MLS and if your home doesn’t sell, they are coming knocking on the doors of home owners and telling them their tax bills are going up.
What, how is this possible? You see, it seems the Tigard tax assessor is watching the MLS and looking for discrepancies between what is listed on the MLS and what they have on the tax books. So, if you have been paying taxes on a 3 bed room 1 bath home, but you remodeled the home to be a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home without permits then you have been paying too little in taxes.
So, the government comes knocking after your listing has expired and tells you that you owe more money. It seems they are leaving the home owners alone who sell, but the buyers are a likely to get a little surprise on their tax bills than what was listed on the MLS meaning higher payments .
So, if you are selling a home in Tigard, Oregon that has been remodeled and you didn’t get permits, don’t over price your home, because when it doesn’t sell, you may get a knock on the door and a bill from your local tax assessor.
How did I hear about this? It seems it happened in our office to one of our agents and their clients. The bill they got when the listing was withdrawn was over a $1,000. So, if your home is overpriced and doesn’t sell, it now could cost you even more in Tigard, Oregon!
