I have had many Tigard, Oregon sellers contact me lately about selling their home because they are behind on their payments because of job loss or medical bills, but they have equity so they aren’t worried about a short sale, they just want to protect their credit score as much as possible so they can possibly buy something with a lower payment.
But, what I have discovered in many of these situations is you need to really watch yourself and make sure you have a good lawyer on speed dial. Though you have equity and think because of this you can get a quick sale, I have found recently that many credit card and hospitals are quick to try to get to that equity you have in your home.
The reason a lot of people sell is so they can try to pay some of these bills that are getting behind so they can eliminate their debt. But, once your creditors discover that you are trying to sell your home, the one thing they can attach a lien to, they go after a lien in court so they can steal that equity from you.
So, if you are behind on your bills and are trying to sell your home, make sure you don’t have any surprise liens on your home or you could not be getting the check for the equity you thought you had.
