It seems like an easy answer as you walk through new homes today, with every home having all hardwood floors. (I have to say I prefer them myself because I have allergies) But, what about homes that have all carpet? Do you say to yourself, “This would be easy to convert to hardwoods.”?
But,
if you go in to a lot of
older homes and look under the carpet you will see hardwoods that were
covered
in the 60s and 70s. What happened then that made people
prefer carpet
over
hardwoods? Have you asked yourself that?
Maybe in another 20
years, we could see a resurgence of people who
prefer
carpet over hardwoods and today’s hardwoods will be again covered with
carpet.
Real estate goes in waves and today’s trends may not be the trends of
tomorrow.
But, if you plan to live in your home a long time and you are doing it
for
yourself rather than re-sale value, I say you go ahead and do anything
you want
to the house that you find more convenient or esthetically pleasing for
yourself. This is your home and you should make it for you and no one
else!
