I’m a little excited, my oldest daughter has started to ask questions about getting in to real estate

By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494

Though she can’t sell real estate legally in Oregon until she is 18, I can certainly start her with the basics. I think I’m going to start taking her with me to open houses, a couple closings, and really start to introduce her to the players in the real estate game.

America's Next Top Agent

I figure, in 7 years when she can finally get her license, she may have the jump start that I didn’t have when I started. I think also, she will be really good at blogging, being she has already started with her book reviews that she has been doing on my blog for awhile now.

The things she has really started to show interest in are good for me because I have no clue about staging and really have no desire to learn it, even if it helps me make money. I would rather pay someone to do it for me. Then there is my daughter, who clearly has a thing for it, and I think she has a great eye and will enjoy staging homes as well as selling them.

So, here is to the next seven years of training. I may get her started by reading some of the great posts here in the rain. Don’t scare her off! Although, I’m not sure you can, because if hearing her dad on the phone with the short sale departments at the banks hasn’t done it, nothing will.

Activerain made me a professional photographer!

Interstate Bridge at Night
I couldn't believe it when I got the email, there it was, someone wanted to pay me to use my photo. This makes me a professional, well I guess not until I actually get the check. But, I have a lawyer writing a contract on exactly how the photo can be used and for how long. But, I have to say that when one of your first is used, it is really exciting. How did they find the photo? Activerain of course.

Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to play is!

By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494

Play to winI’ve coached baseball and softball for at least 5 years now and one thing I’m not afraid to say is I like to win. But, it doesn’t and shouldn’t be at all cost, it needs to be fun, but I do want to make sure my players aren’t injured and they play as a team.

What sports are all about is teaching kids to learn to be part of a team and working together to reach a common goal of winning. Now if you play together, have fun and still lose, then I really don’t care, you tried and that is all I ask.

But, my pet peeve is when parents force their children who clearly don’t want to play to play anyway. I don’t appreciate parents who force their kids to play the sports they played as a kid, so they can re-live their youth. Kids need to be happy and find what they are good at and try to excel at that. But, if you have a kid that you are forcing to play a sport they say they don’t want to play you are actually endangering that child, because when they aren’t paying attention, those are the kids that get hurt by a ball coming at them when they aren’t looking.

So, please if you are a parent of a child that doesn’t want to play a particular sport, then find one they are interested in, even if you aren’t a fan of that sport and support them in their growth. I think sports are very important for the health and mental progression of kids, but forcing a child to play will not help them in any way!

I think learning to win is very important and I don’t like the new sports programs that don’t keep score and say that it isn’t about winning, because the real world doesn’t work that way.

Don’t spend my money when you don’t have too!

By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494

caughtI’m about one week from closing on a home that is in foreclosure and the loan that is in foreclosure is a VA loan. The bank that is foreclosing is about 2 months away from foreclosing on this property, yet I still got a call today from a VA appraiser wondering if there was a lockbox on the property so they could do an appraisal on the property.

I had to ask, why are we spending tax payer money ordering an appraisal on a property that was less than a week away from closing? I could understand if it had passed the date it was supposed to close and they thought that they may have to foreclose, but that isn’t the situation here.

So, my question is, how do you stop the banks from doing stupid things like spending our money on things that aren’t needed, like a tax payer paid appraisal on a VA loan that won’t matter in a week and probably won’t even be back to the bank before we close?

Book reviews by Kids for Kids - By Meesha Clark (How to train your dragon)

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
by
Cressida Cowell

How to train your dragonI really enjoyed this book.  I would recommend it for anyone starting at about age six, especially if they love humorous books.

It’s about a boy named Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, who is the son of a chief.  He needs to become a Viking.  The first thing he needs to do is catch a sleeping dragon.  He ends up getting the most common little garden dragon, and to top it off, it has NO TEETH!  Hiccup named him Toothless.  However, he did one thing wrong.  Hiccup can speak Dragonese, which is against the rules.  But, since he can talk to Toothless, he thinks he is able to train him better, but Toothless runs off and gets into trouble.

Find out if Hiccup becomes a hero, if he gets exiled, or if he gets into even more trouble.  This book is an exciting, funny, adventurous, and downright silly book about a boy and his dragon.

If my daughter can be a tween (A pre-teenager) can I be a seen (A pre-senior) and get a 5% discount to my favorite restaurants?

By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494

SEEN (A pre-senior)I’m tired of all these new labels we keep getting added to us, so I thought I would try to think of one that may actually benefit me! So, since I’m creeping up on 40, I think this should qualify me for the “SEEN” group or Pre-Senior and I should get a 5% discount at my favorite places.

I think of this as more of a survival discount for having survived kids, but whatever the reason, I would like to start this new group and suggest to local merchants target the “SEEN” market and help boost the economy by getting more of us to leave our kids at home with a babysitter and head out.
